PPAC Announces 4th Annual Contemporary Photography Competition & Exhibition

Jurors: Lesley Martin, Publisher of the Aperture Book Program Andy Adams, Creator of FlakPhoto.com Selected works will be exhibited at PPAC from June 13th - August 24th, 2013 and will be posted on PPAC's website for the duration of the exhibition. The competition is open to all subject matter, photographic techniques and processes. The entry fee is $40 for a maximum of 5 images. Entry fees are non refundable. First, second and third place winners will receive $750, $200 and $100 in cash prizes.  All entries must be received by Tuesday, April 30th, 2012.   Submissions only accepted online at www.philaphotoarts.slideroom.com  Email and mail submissions will not be accepted. Martin is publisher of the Aperture Foundation's book-publishing program. Her writing on photography has been published in Aperture, American Photo, and DoubleTake, among other publications and she has edited over sixty books of photography.   Andy Adams, Creator of FlakPhoto.com Andy Adams is digital producer and photo editor in online publishing,  social media, and community collaborations in contemporary photography. He is the creator and editor of FlakPhoto.com, an online art space that celebrates the culture of image making by promoting the discovery of artists from around the world.

Ceaphas Stubbs (MFA '13) has been selected to exhibit work in Art in the Atrium Inc.'s 21st Anniversary Exhibition.  Generation Next features the work of over 30 African-American artists. 

“With this, our 21st annual exhibit, we are entering an exciting new time for art and artists that represent the African diaspora,” says Lauren Craig, Esq., ATA Board of Directors.    

Generation Next is on view 01.25.13 -- 03.22.13. An opening reception will be held 01.25.13 from 5:30-9 pm.

Festival Images is launching another round of its project competition. Artists and photographers have until March 15th to enter the Vevey International Photo Award 2013/2014. This award represents a unique form of support for contemporary original works, with a free choice of subject matter and genre. The purpose of this competition consists in providing crucial assistance for projects that have not been realised, in the form of various grants that amount to up to CHF 40,000 (around EUR 33,000), in order to bring a photography initiative to completion.  In April 2013, a jury of professionals will choose the projects that will be supported by the Festival. The winning projects will be realized within the following year and previewed at the next Festival Images in September 2014. 9 Perspectives on a Photography Collection

This exhibition mines the extensive photography holdings in the University of Pennsylvania’s Art Collection and Gabriel Martinez, Senior Lecturer in Penn’s School of Design is guest Curator. Since September 2011, Martinez has surveyed and documented every photograph in the University collection, along with Heather Gibson, Collections Manager.
9 Perspectives will bring the University’s photography collection into an entirely new focus.

Light Work: Artist-In-Residence Program

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Every year Light Work invites between twelve and fifteen artists to come to Syracuse to devote one month to creative projects. Over 360 artists have participated in Light Work's Artist-in-Residence Program, and many of them have gone on to achieve international acclaim.

The 2012 line-up of Artists-in-Residence includes: Karen Miranda-Rivadeneira, Aspen Mays, Shimon Attie, Justyna Badach, Claire Beckett, Michael Bühler-Rose, Raymond Meeks, Nate Larson & Marni Shindelman, Irina Rozovsky, Heidi Kumao, John Freyer, John Chervinsky, Valerio Spada, and Brijesh Patel. We are now accepting applications for residencies in 2013.

The residency includes a $4,000 stipend, a furnished artist apartment, 24-hour access to our state-of-the-art facilities, and generous staff support. Work by each Artist-in-Residence is published in a special edition of Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual along with an essay commissioned by Light Work. Work by former Artists-in-Residence is also part of the Light Work Collection.
