The ICA is pleased to present Jeremy Deller: Joy in People, the first mid-career survey of this unpredictable, generative, and vibrant artist. Hugely influential, Jeremy Deller (b. 1966, London; lives London) has helped to rewrite the rules of contemporary art over the past two decades by putting people at the center of his work. Operating as forums for discussion, display, and social interactions of all kinds, this work is disarmingly democratic in its muddling of class and cultural hierarchies. The sheer delight Deller takes in various forms of sub and folk cultures—Goth style, Manchester music, pro wrestling, street parades, and historical reenactment societies—transmits itself with a sense of awe at the creativity and zeal with which people resist mainstream values and patterns of consumption. His work explores compelling social territories, while the artist himself variously assumes the roles of artistic producer, publisher, filmmaker, collaborator, curator, parade organizer, and cultural archivist. Joy in People offers an important opportunity for American viewers to experience the work of one of Britain's most significant artists.

Second Year MFA Exhibition "call it" opens in Addams Gallery

The show titled " call it," exhibits the work of the second year MFA students in the Gallery at the Charles Addams Fine Arts Hall through October 13th. "call it" is intended as a preview of what may come in this next year, as all fourteen students proceed down their diverse and distinct paths towards thesis in May.

The show includes photography work by Kelsey Halliday Johnson, Caitlin Lennon, and Chloe Reison as well as work in other media.

Fleisher/Ollman is pleased to present the exhibition, Off Camera, a survey of photographic works which have been drawn on or painted, animated, collaged or made into sculpture. Off Camera features a wide-range of work made by artists who set aside photography's conventions, cast off the limits of the medium and rely on invention when a straight representation of the physical world fails to meet their needs or expectations.

Seeing Voices focuses on the relationship between the artist, the work of art and the audience and how the artist's “visual voice” influences the content and subsequent reading of their work. If the artist's voice derives from the sum total of an artist's visual and conceptual strategies, what is the role of an artists' intentions, ethnic background, gender, age, and larger culture in forming that voice? In a post modern era is an artist's voice as likely to be a persona as an authentic voice, and how is this affected by technology, fashion, artistic tradition and the art market?

Work by 32 artists working in a variety of media/formats. Curated by Margery Amdur and Bruce Garrity and presented by the Rutgers/Camden Department of Fine Arts and the Camden County Cultural and Heritage Commission in cooperation with the Rutgers- Camden Center for the Arts. The exhibition is presented at the Stedman Gallery and the Hopkins House Gallery of Contemporary Art.

Francesca Pfister practices a form of visual archeology. Working in photography, video and installation, she explores the physical world around her in search for human presence. In Snow Traces she investigates a pedestrian’s experience of Philadelphia streets in the aftermath of a snowstorm. The photo installation composed by twelve diptychs testifies of Pfister's fascination with the transformative qualities of ephemeral marks and traces in the urban environment.

8 x 10 and Under: Small Landscapes at Gallery 339 featuring Tetsugo Hyakutake

From November 20, 2009 through January 23, 2010, Gallery 339 is pleased to present 8x10 and Under: Small Landscapes. The exhibition is presented as a counterpoint to the enormity that characterizes much contemporary photography, particularly landscape photography. 8x10 and Under includes work from 11 artists from across the country: Linda Connor, David Freese, David Graham, Tetsugo Hyakutake, Richard Kagan, Michael Kenna, Christine Laptuta, Edward McHugh, Andrea Modica, Stuart Rome, and Jerry Spagnoli.

The Fleisher Art Memorial presents the second exhibition in the thirty-second season of the three-part Wind Challenge Exhibitions at Fleisher - the Delaware Valley's premier juried artist exhibition program.
This season's nine Challenge artists were selected from a field of 368 applicants to exhibit in one of three three-person exhibitions.
The second of this year's Challenge Exhibitions features paintings by Abbey Ryan, photographs by Sarah Stolfa, and a textile installation by Heather Ujiie.
